White Lily Flower
Tips On How To Grow A White Lily Flower
The white lily flower is a member of the liliaceae family and it is an oriental hybrid flowering plant. It can be placed in the garden among other flowers or they can be planted in a bunch to highlight a specific area in your yard. The white lily flower produces huge flowers and they have an intense pleasing fragrance. They also make a dazzling bouquet.
The stems on the white lily flower are long and green. The leaves are a darker green color and they are long and thin. There is a point on the end of each leaf and this plant produces beautiful blooms in the mid summer. The blooms are mostly a creamy white color but they also are an off white or light yellow color. Each bloom has 6 individual petals that are long, thin and have a point on the end. There are long seed pods that come out of the center of the bloom and they have green stems and red tips. The plant can grow to 3 to 4 feet in height and the flowers are 6 to 12 inches wide.
The lily white is a perennial flower that is considered hearty and can live in below freezing temperatures. If you were thinking about keeping one of these plants in your garden area, there are a few good tips on how to keep these plants healthy.
Before planting any type of plant that produces blooms or fruit, it is a good idea to fertilize the area at least once, before planting. It would benefit you to purchase a soil testing kit from your local gardening center. You can test your soil to see if it needs any added nutrients to help the plants. The white lily flower likes soil that is mildly acidic to neutral. So find out what you will need to add to your soil before planting.
This plant enjoys full direct sunlight. Most flowering plants benefit from this and you can place your white lily flower in an area that receives either morning or afternoon sunlight. It will not harm the plant if it is placed in partial shading but there will not be as many blooms in mid summer.
When it comes to watering this plant, saturating the soil once a week is perfect. But the plant has delicate roots and they cannot sit in water for too long. You should use the raised garden bed method for these plants. If you will only be using one plant, place it on top of a slight hill. The ground should be elevated enough for the water to drain away from the base of the plant. If you are planting several plants in a row, prepare slightly raised rows and plant directly on top of them. You can make a trench on either side of these rows, to catch the extra water. These techniques will keep the root systems dry and healthy. Since these plants are bigger and so are the blooms, you should space them at least a foot and a half apart.
Many people choose to plant the lily white flower in a large pot and keep it indoors and outdoors. They place the pot in the garden area in the summer and bring it back indoors in the winter. Make sure that if you are using a pot for this plant, it should have water drainage holes on the bottom. If you are using a plate to catch the excess water, you should also empty that immediately. Never let the plant sit in water and place it in a window that has plenty of sunshine everyday.
